Mermaids

RSC sailors had a great week at the Mermaid Nationals which were held in Foynes in August. Jim Carthy with crew Muriel and Paula Carthy won runner up in the National Championship, they also won the Rockabill Cup for winning Race 1. Paddy Dillon with crew Johnny Dillon and Ruairi Grimes achieved 3rd place in the Championships in addition to the Celia No 5 trophy for boats older than 40 years and the Bailey Cup for winning Race 6. Anthony Carthy together with Marguerite Carthy and Eoin Butterly achieved fourth place in the Championships, with Eoin being runner up in the Crew race. Anthony Weldon with Des Deane and Cian Hickey won the Celia Trophy. Well done to all !

The Mermaid season is up and running with Darren Kane, the new class captain organising them into weekly action. Fixtures for the Mermaid 2010 season have been agreed, club races are marked in yellow, with events in red, Click here

Rumour has it that the Rush sailors plan to build two new Mermaids this year and we will follow their progress with interest. The 2010 Mermaid Youth championships will return to Rush in September, a date has yet to be confirmed. Click here for the Mermaid Sailing Association Spring 2010 newsletter.

Lasers

The Winter Series of Laser races in the channel on Sundays has attracted a higher level of participation than any other series in the calendar! Upwards of 24 boats can be seen on a Sunday morning or afternoon, depending on the tide in both mild and wild weather. Details of fixtures and results for 2009/10 can be found here Click Here>
